The old town of Požega
On the hill behind the Gymnasium building, there has been a fort since the Middle Ages, which is documented in a record dated January 11, 1227.
The old town of Dolac
On the northern slopes of Požeška Gora, not far from the settlement of Brestovac, there are the remains of a medieval tower on which a wooden doorframe still stands today. This fort was built as part of the defense system during the Ottoman invasions.
The old town of Pakrac
The old town of Pakrac, or its remaining remains, is located in the very center of the city, in the area where the city, post and police facilities are located.
The old town of Kaptol
In the center of Kaptol, only 12 kilometers from Požega, is dominated by a late Gothic-Renaissance fortress whose contours are still visible. This fort is surrounded by a defense channel that was once filled with water from the nearby Bistre stream.
The old town of Velika
During the Middle Ages, a surveillance and defense system was built on the southern slopes of Papuk, which included military castles. One of these castles is Velički Stari Grad.
The old town of Viškovci
In the southern part of the village of Viškovica near the town of Požega, surrounded by the forests of Požeška gora, there is a fortress known as Viškovački grad. This impressive ruin can be reached by forest roads from the villages of Viškovec, Black or Vesela.
Papuk Nature Park
The peaks of Papuk rise from the depths of the former Pannonian Sea, reaching almost a thousand meters above sea level. This area, which is the most geologically diverse in Croatia, is the first geopark in the country. The layers of Papuk reveal a history that completely transformed the landscape, ever since the existence of the Pannonian Sea.
Archaeological site Kaptol
On the southern slopes of Papuk, above the village of Kaptol, there is an archaeological site of the same name. During the Early Iron Age (800-400 BC), the community that inhabited the area buried its significant individuals under large earthen mounds – tumuli.
Rudina archaeological site
On the eastern slopes of Mount Psunj, not far from the settlements of Čečevac and Šnjegavić, there are archaeological remains of the Benedictine abbey of St. Mihovila na Rudina, also known as Požega’s Monte Cassino. It is an extremely picturesque and easily accessible area where shepherds keep their flocks even today.
Kutjevo Castle
Kutjevo Castle is a protected monument of architectural heritage and one of the most beautiful examples of the rich cultural heritage of this part of Slavonia and Croatia.
Castle of Baron Trenk Trenkovo
In the center of the Trenkovo settlement stands out the baroque manor house, which during the first part of the 18th century was the central object of the manor of Baron Franjo Trenk.
Castle of Baron Trenk Pakrac
One of the most important historical buildings in Pakrac is the castle of Baron Trenka. Unfortunately, it has been waiting for its final restoration and revitalization for many years.
Sov Lake
Lake Sov is a unique natural lake located on Dilj gora. It is located at a height of 430 meters above sea level and covers an area of approximately 3,600 square meters.
Sokolovac
Sokolovac is an exceptional hill located not far from the center of the city of Požega, in Croatia. These famous hills are named after the brave hero Friar Luka Ibrišimović, known as Sokol, whose courage and military skill are responsible for the expulsion of the Turkish invaders from Požega.
